Karolyn Kolb Martinez “Excellence in Nursing” Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Karolyn Kolb Martinez, a registered nurse for 32 years. Karolyn was passionate about educating nurses and those working to become nurses. Karolyn’s family honors her legacy by providing scholarships to nursing students who display the same high standards for nursing excellence, care, and compassion she demonstrated.

Eligibility

Graduating high school students of Bandera, Blanco, Edwards, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Mason, Real, and Uvalde counties who are pursuing a nursing degree, or current nursing students enrolled at Schreiner University or Alamo Colleges. Applicant must be seeking an Associate Degree in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, and/or enrolled in a LVN or RN nursing program. Applicants can reapply for 3 consecutive years, given they maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. A letter outlining continued need and qualification, as well as a transcript from the prior year are required. Applicants reapplying will be considered along with other qualified applicants. Applicant must submit a short essay related to nursing.

Selection Criteria

Selection preference is based on academic performance and honors, as well as financial need. Recipient must be accepted in a nursing program prior to award decision. The scholarship award will be null and void if not accepted within one year of the award date.
